Which beer?

Though I have to say the Brooklyn Brewery tour is the greatest. None of this walking you through the process in detail. Its more here are some raw ingredients, here are some big shiny vessels, some time in reverance of Oliver, Hindy and Potter and then to the bar, tokens in hand... No matching going on that day though, just a pizza delivered from a local store and drinking games with college students. The Pub Diarieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05833851533643604100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30743480.post-29753227795566065222010-07-16T18:58:16.138+01:002010-07-16T18:58:16.138+01:00I have already covered the best Brooklyn/Food pair...I have already covered the best Brooklyn/Food pairing in existence, you're all wasting your time: http://smallbeerblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/final-breakfast.htmlDanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04158943109849313176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30743480.post-79318672237247739982010-07-16T16:55:26.090+01:002010-07-16T16:55:26.090+01:00@ First Stater

The MC made a big deal about Garett being the best dressed brewer in the bussiness in his introduction. Well garret walks up to the podium in a sport coat and then pulls it off to reveal a beutiful black pearl snap (cowboy style) shirt with bright green hops embroidered all along it. Not only does he dress well, he dresses for the occasion!Bikeraggienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30743480.post-6196355218913683542010-07-16T10:13:14.145+01:002010-07-16T10:13:14.145+01:00Reagrding the palate-cleansing virtue of beer from...Reagrding the palate-cleansing virtue of beer from cheese fat, indeed carbonation is part of oit, but I'm quite certain bitterness also comes in the equation.

A few months back, I was hosting a beer dinner with the founder of Brasserie Trois Dames at some local hostelry. We'd agreed to go for two small beer sampled for every course, to leave room for experimentation and personal preferences.

Second course was poached filet of zander (aka "pike-perch") with saffron sauce. With that we had the brewery's belgian-style wit (obvious choice with white fish) and "near-Kölsch" (a bit more intense and bitter than the Cologne variety), beers with similar carbonation levels.

Indeed, the zander on its own was great with the wit. But when the saffron sauce wuith tons of cream got into play, the wit just seemed not to get to one's tastebuds, and the cream and saffron remained firmly on the tongue. On the other hand, the crisp bitterness in the near-Kölsch did short work of it, effectively cleansing the palate and tongue, leaving them ready for the next bite.
Interestingly, when asked which beer they preferred, diners were really split 50/50. Some people do like fat sticking to their tastebuds, I take it. ;o)Laurent Moussonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00381315158768575211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30743480.post-2696389700016180472010-07-15T21:52:15.439+01:002010-07-15T21:52:15.439+01:00The big question is what did the man wear to the b...The big question is what did the man wear to the barbeque.Billhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14256078606152011585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30743480.post-61460778884515419512010-07-15T19:55:54.149+01:002010-07-15T19:55:54.149+01:00...and are being reminded of it by an American. It should be no surprise, therefore, that British cheese and British ale and beer match so beautifully, since the people that made/brewed the one were drinking/eating the other. What is a surprise is that the British have forgotton this obvious truth …Martyn Cornellhttp://zythophile.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30743480.post-62271050299106174262010-07-15T16:08:00.398+01:002010-07-15T16:08:00.398+01:00Damn you, Brown.Damn you, Brown.ZakAveryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01794154105596597019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30743480.post-59393511639928129352010-07-15T15:53:43.756+01:002010-07-15T15:53:43.756+01:00Great post.
